The Service Manager will oversee the daily operations of the automotive service and repair department. This role is responsible for managing a team of skilled technicians and service advisors, ensuring high standards of customer service, efficient workshop operations, and quality vehicle maintenance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the operations of the service department, including scheduling, job assignments, productivity, and quality control.
- Ensure all service and repair work is completed efficiently and within agreed timelines to meet customer expectations.
- Maintain quality control standards and ensure the team follows best practices and service level agreements.
- Develop, manage, and achieve the department budget, including operational planning and resource allocation.
- Liaise with customers to understand their needs and provide technical expertise and advice.
- Collaborate with other department managers to ensure smooth service department operations.
- Communicate with vehicle manufacturers or distributors regarding technical matters.
- Ensure proper understanding and management of manufacturer warranty procedures and submissions.
- Mentor and train apprentices, technicians, and service advisors to support professional development and improve team performance.
- Maintain accurate service records and provide regular operational reports to management.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as required within the service department.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Service Manager or in a similar leadership role within the automotive service industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of automotive servicing and repair, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical clients.
- Proven experience managing and developing a team of technicians and service advisors.
- Proficiency with automotive diagnostic systems, repair software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
