Job Description

The Head of Engineering is accountable for the reliability, performance, and conformity of mechanical components used in heavy industrial equipment operating in demanding environments. The position oversees external manufacturing partners, ensures technical validation of suppliers, controls production methods, and defines the long-term development strategy for component portfolios.

The role also leads the resolution of quality issues through to completion, validates critical technical choices, and plays a direct role in strengthening the robustness and competitiveness of the overall product offering.

Core Responsibilities

1. Component Development and Validation

  • Coordinate component development with manufacturing partners, from definition through testing and approval.

  • Establish technical requirements including tolerances, material treatments, inspection methods, and manufacturing constraints.

  • Oversee measurement campaigns and engineering analyses to ensure accurate component definition.

  • Confirm readiness of new designs prior to series production.

2. Supplier Assessment and Performance Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and approve manufacturing partners across multiple regions.

  • Review technical know-how, process stability, and production repeatability.

  • Monitor quality indicators and deploy structured improvement actions.

  • Conduct technical visits and audits, formalize agreements, and coordinate third-party quality support when required.

3. Quality Deviation Management

  • Lead investigations into internal, supplier, and field-related quality issues.

  • Define containment and corrective actions and ensure timely resolution.

  • Develop and maintain quality dashboards and performance indicators.

4. Technical Authority and Decision Ownership

  • Support engineering teams in the assessment of components under review.

  • Decide on acceptance, conditional approval, or rejection of parts.

  • Specify necessary design or process changes before approval or release.

  • Verify mechanical, functional, and dimensional integration of components within equipment assemblies.

  • Take final responsibility for decisions related to rework, rejection, or redesign.

5. Technical Planning and Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Define annual development priorities in coordination with executive leadership and commercial teams.

  • Allocate resources across product lines, projects, and new introductions.

  • Structure and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, validation records, and quality history.

6. Leadership of Technical Teams

  • Manage the reverse engineering function (CAD models, drawings, tolerances).

  • Manage the inspection and validation function (dimensional checks, material verification, approvals).

  • Promote structured methods, technical rigor, and continuous skills development.


Requirements

Profile Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or equivalent experience (minimum 7–10 years).

  • Strong background in industrial manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, machining, thermal treatments, and component life-cycle management.

  • Solid experience in quality analysis and failure investigation within mechanical systems.

  • Proven ability to work with international suppliers and develop new industrial partnerships.

  • Recognized technical authority with strong leadership, autonomy, and execution focus.

  • Professional working proficiency in English.
