We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Poultry Processing Unit Manager to oversee the daily operations of a small-scale poultry slaughter and processing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient production, compliance with food safety and animal welfare standards, and consistent delivery of high-quality poultry products.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management
- Plan and supervise daily slaughter and processing activities (slaughtering, evisceration, chilling, packaging)
- Ensure production targets are met while minimizing waste and downtime
- Monitor product quality and processing yields
- Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local health, veterinary, and food safety regulations
- Implement and maintain hygiene, sanitation, and HACCP procedures
- Prepare for and manage inspections and audits
- Team Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate a small team of processing staff
- Train employees in hygiene, safety, and proper handling techniques
- Manage schedules, attendance, and performance
- Animal Welfare
- Ensure humane handling and slaughter of poultry in line with best practices
- Monitor stunning and bleeding processes
- Equipment & Facility Management
- Oversee maintenance of processing equipment and facility infrastructure
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and minor repairs
- Inventory & Supply Control
- Manage stock of live birds, packaging materials, and cleaning supplies
- Coordinate with suppliers and ensure timely availability of inputs
- Waste & Environmental Management
- Ensure proper disposal of waste (feathers, blood, offal)
- Maintain cleanliness and compliance with environmental standards
- Basic Business Support
- Assist with production planning, cost monitoring, and order fulfillment
- Coordinate with customers, distributors, or farm suppliers as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in poultry processing, meat production, or similar operations
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP or equivalent)
- Familiarity with small-scale slaughterhouse operations is an asset
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Good organizational and communication skills
- High attention to hygiene and quality standards
