We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Chief Geologist to lead and manage all geological activities associated with active gold mining operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for geological interpretation, grade control, ore control, reserve reconciliation, geological mapping, sampling programs, and providing technical support to mining and processing teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing resource extraction, maintaining geological data integrity, and supporting operational and strategic mine planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all geological activities related to mining and mineral processing operations.
- Provide technical geological input into mine development and production planning.
- Manage grade control and ore control programs to minimize ore loss and dilution.
- Oversee geological mapping, sampling, blast hole logging, and geological documentation.
- Supervise geological data collection, interpretation, validation, and reporting.
- Monitor reserve movement, depletion, reconciliation, and ore recovery performance.
- Support the development and updating of geological models and resource estimates.
- Collaborate closely with mining, processing, survey, and technical teams to optimize production outcomes.
- Identify geological risks and opportunities to improve operational efficiency and resource recovery.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and mining regulations.
- Mentor, develop, and supervise geological personnel and field teams.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Mining Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications in geology, mining, or mineral resource evaluation are advantageous.
- Additional training in geological software, reserve estimation, or mine planning is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior geological role within the mining industry.
- Experience in open-pit/open-cut gold mining operations preferred.
- Strong background in grade control, ore control, reserve reconciliation, and production geology.
- Experience supporting gravity and/or Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processing operations is advantageous.
- Previous experience working in remote mining environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience managing geological teams.
